Wouldn’t it be great if you could get yourself prepared for the new year, before the new year? If you’re a planner- or even if you aren’t- and you want 2020 to be your year to get organized, this post is for you!
Clutter clearing isn’t a trend. It’s not something that will be “all the rage” for the next few months and then just disappear. Getting organized and clearing clutter is something that is just a part of life. #adulting
Keeping your clutter at a tolerable level and maintaining your sanity is a journey not a one and done event.
If you think you can clear it once and it will stay that way, I don’t want to be the one to tell you (but it’s my duty to do so), but it won’t. Life is dynamic and so is the stuff coming in and out, but by staying on top of it regularly, you can keep the overwhelm at bay.
How Often Should I Declutter?
Now with that said, I realize that it can be overwhelming when we look at our house as a whole, so I have broken it down into smaller projects to tackle each month. I am also someone who like to be told what to do. Well, not completely, but I like it when I have a clear plan that I don’t have to think about. It is like going to a group exercise class- I don’t have to think, I do have to do with work, but I like when someone directs me to what I should be doing. I am a good student 🙂
How Do I Decide What To Declutter?
This can be a little different for each person. For some it’s easy to throw out items, for others there might be too much sentimental value attached to it EVEN if you don’t regularly use it. Put I’ve shared a few articles my favorite ways to simplify or declutter.
1) Preparing to Simplify: Part 1
3) How to overcome barriers when simplifying: Part 3
How do I make time to declutter?
Just take it in baby steps. Grab the free monthly declutter checklist and go step by step. No need to try and schedule hours or days to overhaul the entire house. My cheat sheet is here to help take the overwhelm out of mentally trying to figure it out AND save you wasted time.
